The murals in the church - Santa Maria de los Angeles - which is headed by the franciscan "church of the poor" priest Uriel Molina Oliu, and located in a working class/poor barrio in Managua named Riguero, were carried out by the Italian artist Sergio Michilini along with other Italian artists and young Nicaraguan artists between 1984 and 1985.

The work on this church lead to the development and founding of the School of Monumental and Public Art - David Alfaro Siqueiros - in Managua the following year.
