THE CLOCKTOWER / P.S.1 CONTEMPORARY ART CENTER / INSTITUTE FOR ART AND URBAN RESOURCES
New York, New York
Founded by Alanna Heiss in 1971 as the Institute for Art and Urban Resources. In 1975 the Institute opened a warehouse - The Idea Warehouse - at 22 Reade Street as another alternative space for experimental performance - "as a development and production location for ideas" [Heiss]. In 1976 a rundown former school in Long Island City - P.S.1 - became the new exhibition space, with "Rooms" being the first exhibition in this location. The Clocktower, located at 108 Leonard Street in Lower Manhattan, is another exhibition and studio space. [Note: Catalogues not linked can be located in the Catalogues Cited page.]
