SELLING THE LOWER EAST SIDE: Culture, Real Estate, and Resistance in New York City
University of Minnesota Press, 2000
Author: Christopher Mele
In one chapter of this text the author identifies the relationship of the emerging galleries in the Lower East Side during the 80s to the gentrification project of the city and developers. In this chapter Mele mentions a number of Galleries and Clubs as well a few graffiti artists - his attention on graffiti artists unfortunately leaves out a great number of additional artists that impacted significantly on the development of the gallery scene.
